Hello everyone,

I've been saving up to purchase my first HG. Luckily, I happen to live in
the Pacific Northwest - so I know that I'm closer to HG resources than some.

My question to put to you is this: I have been seeing a lot of discussion
threads relating to makers, and while I think I'll likely buy from the local
Olympic Musical Instruments, I'm just curious as to opinions on makers, pros
and cons for beginner models, etc.

I've played the piano competitively from age 3, so I'm familiar with many
aspects of music. I've never picked up the guitar or violin, so learning to
care for a stringed instrument would be new to me. In fact, one of the
reasons I'm investing in a HG is because my family has to sell our grand
piano (downsizing as my parents get older), and I want to be sure that I
have an instrument I can travel with and continue to grow in musicality
with.

My interest in the HG might also stem from a long time love affair with
bagpipes, as my uncle is quite involved with the Highland games out here in
WA and I have grown up surrounded by the lovely droning things. :)

At any rate, I appreciate any/all information and insight.

Thanks!
Jenna
