I'm in the process of gathering info and photos/old postcards dealing with the subject of blind hurdy-gurdy players (Lirnyky) from Ukraine.

The history of the lirnyky is intriguing as it is tragic, culminating in their planned "elimination" during the purges of Stalin in the 1930's.

My particular fascination is for those wandering lirnyky that roamed Western Ukraine (incorporating parts of Eastern Poland and South Belyrossia as boundaries changed in the course of history).

Factual evidence exists in the form of early photos/picture postcards not to mention cylindrical recordings.

Perhaps you or others on your mailing list might have something of interest to help me in my quest to gather as much visual info as possible. Early postcards/photos were certainly sent from Ukraine to Poland,Moldova, Hungary. Bylerossia and to Europe generally.
Maybe you can contact Andrey Vinogradov, maybe he did some investigation in that direction.
