"That fellow in North Carolina" is George Kelischek. :-) I've got one of his minnesingers built from the kit he was selling years ago. (No longer available). As long as you know what it is and have reasonable expectations for it, it is fine.
This one looks similar, but not quite the same. General shape, monophonic, rubber band "enhancement" all match. Tangent assembly and shape differ, as does some of the visible bracing in the box. My guess is it was built by someone from the plans he was selling at about the same time he was selling the kit. I've got a request in to the seller for more photos, especially of the wheel and shaft assembly - they're the biggest weak spot in the kit design, I think.
