Well, hopefully not rabid bigotry!! But perhaps an eye for haute couture. Lest we think that the worlds of gurdies and glam are light years apart and ne'er the twin shall meet, I pass along for your enjoyment the following anecdote from a colleague of mine who lives in Paris:
"Hi Vlad, Discounting for a moment his recent arrest for anti-semitism...I thought you'd like to know that I saw John Galliano... buying a 19th c. hurdy-gurdy on the rue du Pont-Louis-Philippe last week. Look for this and other archaic instruments in the haute-coƻture lines in a couple years! But seriously folks, this could spark a whole reappraisal of the H-G. I'd send my card to all the major pop-rock groups if I were you. Classical composers, too. It could be the Martenot waves of the 21st century!" (full disclosure: I've edited out some choice expletives and unsavory descriptions that might be considered gossipy.) You never know where HGs may end up. Keep your eyes open! And sorry for my radio silence for the last several months. I've only been getting the digest version since my new job and work on my DM thesis have been all-consuming. On the note of my new job, in case any of you are intersted, it is as an editor at Fine Woodworking magazine (Taunton Press), I've been with them since November and on the masthead starting with the most recent issue (#218). I also have a blog up there and am usually the one to write about esoteric stuff like lutherie, japanese tools, weird antique finds, and reclaimed wood: http://www.finewoodworking.com/profile/Vlad_S. I hope to be able to write in sometime int he near future with possible stirrings of a midwest HG festival/workshop. Even though I no longer live in Bloomington, Indiana (now in CT) I am still involved with getting the HG scene going in IN and the Midwest.I'll try to keep you all posted. cheers, and hi to everyone again-- Vlad -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "hurdygurdy" group.
