Hi Hurdy Gurdy folks. It was a blast having all of you at Folk College! I wanted to make sure you knew about the plan for Greenwood Furnace Folk Gathering. We're pleased to have Melissa Kacalonos as our hurdy gurdy teacher for the weekend. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and your help in finding us the right person. Some info about Melissa.... Melissa Kacalanos is a multi-instrumentalist who studied Hungarian hurdy gurdy with Balazs Nagy. She has played hurdy gurdy since 2002, including several years as a professional busker in New York City. She plays music from diverse traditions in several dance bands, including contra dance, Balkan, and Middle Eastern music, and also composes innovative music combining elements from diverse traditions. (See http://www.melissatheloud.com) The festival will be Sept 16-18 in a gorgeous state park in central PA. Friday starts with an evening concert followed by jamming. Saturday morning will be a hurdy gurdy intensive with Melissa, and she'll also teach workshops for mixed instruments at other times. You can read about the event at http://folkgathering.com. Let me know if you have questions. I hope you can make it! -Linda -- Linda Littleton Simple Gifts [email protected] 814/238-8048 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "hurdygurdy" group.
