I would suggest that you just pull out the tangent and put a thread or some 
cotton in the hole. You don't want to put anything on the tangent that will 
lock it in place if the weather changes. 
You could also apply a thin coat of wood glue, allow it to completely dry 
(overnight), then refit it into the hole. (Thank you for the idea Graham). The 
glue seals the wood and expands it a bit so that it makes a tighter fit and 
tends to stop shrinking and expanding.
