Strangely enough (and I do not recommend this!), I stumbled a little while closig a door with a lever pull and caught the nodule hard and it went down! Only lasted a month or so but it must have been fluid-filled and I burst it. It hurt like heck for a day or two though. I'm also finding it a lot harder to turn the crank these days too (I have Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis which doesn't help). Not quite bad enough to have surgery on my hands yet they say (crooked rather than bent right in). It's my left pinky so a little hard to get the span for some tunes - and slower!

My situation matches Bruno's pretty exactly. I had the left pinky
surgically corrected. It took a while for it to "come back" completely,
but it has been fine for the last six years. It is in only the last
year that my right pinky has been exhibiting signs of Dupuytrens (my
Viking heritage?). I've been firmly massaging at the noticeable nodules
in the finger, and stretching the finger straight; this seems to be
holding the situation at bay. There are times when I think I can feel
the tendons acting up: a not-quite-painful twinge that I massage away.
Some cases can be treated with aponeurotomy, the needle treatment Bruno
mentioned. The deeper surgery looks pretty brutal, but was required for
my left finger which was bent to about 45 degrees away from 180 when
straightened. Lots of physical therapy followed. Works fine now, but
the orthopedic surgeon warned me that it could return.

Hello,
I have been suffering from Dupuytren contracture for the last 7 years.
First it was my small left hand finger which became gradually bent at a
90 degree angle and could not longer be retracted. Then I had the same
thing started happening on my right hand ring finger.
There are only two ways of dealing with this issue, and no alternative
soft medicine such as Accupuncture will fix the problem . one way is a
treatement involving poking with a needle to free up the nodules that
lodge onto your tendons , the other alternative is surgery. I had the
latter done, which resulted in my fingers being able to work again,
although my pinky on my left hand will not bend properly any more at the
first joint, hence making it a bit awkwared to play lute, or guitar,
etc, but its a lot better than not being able to open up the finger at all.
get a good plastic surgeon and have it done, I have met with people
who the needle technique done on them, but the Dupuytren came back a few
years later.
In Dupuytren contracture, you will feel lumps inside your palm or on
the fingers that press against your tendons, its very uncomfortable and
since you can no longer relax the affected fingers..

Michael, I'd like to hear about any therapies you might have for
this issue, please. I was going to suggest acupuncture.

    Felicia.
