Just a small suggestion. When you get your hurdy gurdy, and it has been set up well, take photographs of the cottoning etc, and any other adjustable parts. This way when facing difficulties later you can remind yourself how it looked when it played well.
Also note that if you do decide to adjust anything, only adjust one thing at a time and check what difference it makes. If it doesn't fix the problem, set it back and try something else.
