Firstly, Happy New Year to you all.

As promised, here is an update on Mike Gilpin. He is now in the rehab unit at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge and is making slow but steady progress. Although at present his right arm and hand are paralysed and he is not able to speak, he is starting to communicate with gestures, and can still smile.

Thank you to all who have passed on their good wishes, which have, in turn, been passed on to Tania who I am sure will have shared them with Mike.

It is going to be a long journey, and at the moment nobody knows how far Mike will get along the road to recovery, but rest assured that he is being cared for in an excellent place by highly skilled people.

Regards
Ruthie

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Mike Gilpin is in hospital. He and his wife were on holiday in Hong Kong when he suffered a mini-stroke. I believe that he was in hospital there when he had a second, major stroke. I don't have many details, but I think this was about four weeks ago. They were flown back to the UK on Tuesday and Mike is now in the stroke unit at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge and will hopefully be transferred to the rehab unit next week. It's not clear yet how much damage has been done, but he's not able to speak at the moment, and can only stand with assistance. His right side seems to have been affected. Obviously it is still very early days, so there is hope.

If you are awaiting an email reply from Mike, I'm afraid that there may be some delay.

I am sure that we all wish him a full recovery, and in the meantime I will keep you updated on his progress.

Regards
Ruthie
