Greetings Red Hat Partners, We are pleased to announce that on October 18, 2021, the Red Hat Hardware Certification program will add Ironic tests for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform Installer Provisioned Infrastructure (RHOCP IPI) bare metal hardware certifications. In addition, we will automatically create new RHOCP certification listings for all existing Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (RHEL 8) certified servers that have passed the RHEL 8 virtualization tests.
What will be available? New listings will become available in the Red Hat Ecosystem Catalog <https://catalog.redhat.com/> (“the catalog”) for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform <https://www.redhat.com/en/technologies/cloud-computing/openshift> 4.6 and later. These additions do not change the existing relationship between RHEL and RHOCP regarding support and inherited certification. They are being created to make it clearer to customers that systems certified for RHEL 8 are also certified for RHOCP, and to provide customers with a list of systems that have undergone further testing to demonstrate support for IPI automated management functionality. The new entries mirror the established Red Hat OpenStack Platform (RHOSP) certification process: 1. We will automatically create the appropriate RHOCP certification listing for any server that successfully passes the virtualization tests that are part of RHEL 8 certification. This matches the procedure we follow today to create RHOSP Compute Node listings. 2. Optionally, additional testing with the Ironic service may be conducted with RHOCP and the server's BMC to achieve the same new bare metal IPI feature in the RHOCP certification listing. This is analogous to the "Red Hat OpenStack Platform for Bare Metal'' certification listing in the current catalog. To simplify the IPI certification process, if a BMC was recorded as part of the specification during the original RHEL 8 certification, a supplemental RHOCP certification for IPI will automatically be opened for x86_64 servers. A supplemental certification may also be manually opened at any time after the RHEL and RHOCP certifications are complete. In contrast to the way we list RHOSP Compute Node and Bare Metal certifications separately, a single catalog entry will be provided for RHOSP with or without IPI listed as appropriate. IPI will be a searchable feature in the catalog. Please note, the RHOCP certification entries will not include a role qualifier (nodes, controller, etc.). Partners, system integrations, and solution providers will continue to guide customers through their hardware configuration and selection process to ensure the selected certified systems and configuration thereof meet both the RHOSP minimum hardware requirements for the chosen role and customer expectations. When will this be available? The partner certification window will open during the week of October 5th and the certification tooling, workflow, and guides will also become available to partners at that time. The guides will further explain how to open any necessary RHOCP and IPI certifications as well as execute the tests. The testing will require working knowledge of RHOCP and an available installation of the product. We will send a follow up email to inform you when the window is opened. At that time Red Hat will also automatically create the base RHOCP certifications from all completed RHEL 8 certifications present in the catalog. Processing these and any partner created RHOCP certifications will then begin. Completed certifications will remain unavailable to the general public in the catalog until the 18th. On October 18th, Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform will appear in the catalog for customers for the first time. What do I need to do? No action is required on your part at this time. If you intend to support IPI installations of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform we encourage you to begin IPI certification testing when the window opens. Please reach out to Ecosystem Partner Management if you have any questions about these new listings. We value your ongoing participation in Red Hat certification, software development, and testing efforts. Thank you for your continued partnership. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact Ecosystem Partner Management. Regards, The Red Hat Certification Team
