Thanks Guy - I know about that workaround:-) I was wondering if the README.rst could be changed to fix this but as you said it appears to be a gitlab bug.
Perhaps you could add a short note at the beginning of README.rst to make people aware of the bug and the workaround? Just my 2 cents.
