Matt,
Thank you so much for the suggestions!
First, I didn't know you could pattern chain sections from two different
styles. I don't know why I assumed that... maybe because I can't even
record mutes. ;-) I don't think I'll ever play live, so that's not a
problem for me. I bought my RM1x to make some deep / progressive house
music - mostly for fun and for DJ friends of mine to play. I bought an AN1x
to go with it for better bass lines and possibly for a synth lead as well.
(I personally like the RM1x sounds for other voices, but these are my first
two pieces of gear so what do I know. :-) )
Second, I didn't even think about taking the first 8 measures and just copy
them and include the fills, breaks, or whatever I'd like on the 2nd set of 8
before going to the next section. I must have just had this mental block.
All I've been doing is muting, LOL. Not being able to record mutes isn't as
big of a deal to me now. I'll simply make the section longer and have the
voice turned off. DUH!!! I feel pretty lame right now, but inspired to stay
up all night playing with my song. :-)
I too don't know that I'll have to use 2 styles for a single song, but your
above info gave me an idea. I may just use the second style as a "scratch
pad" of my first style. That way I can play with the effects on tracks but
not worry about screwing up my originals - which I have done. Speaking of
effects, I have a question:
If you are in pattern mode and you are overdub recording, to play with the
effects on a particular voice, and the section repeats once it reaches the
last measure, what exactly happens to that voice? When the section restarts
and you are still recording, is the effect added "on top of" the voice that
already has effects added to it? I understand that you can record reverb
and later change the octave and still have the reverb, that's not what I
mean. For example if you are adding some reverb to a synth lead in overdub
and it starts at the beginning will the RM1x continue to apply the effect to
the voice even though it has already been added, or does it use the
"original" before effects were added?
I ask because it seems that I can really hoze the sample by playing with
effects too much, all the while I am overdubbing. Sometimes I wonder if
it's getting hozed because the effect ("REVERB SET TO 125") of a single
effect (the actual reverb effect on the music) is being laid on top of it
self each time the measure starts over.
Thanks again Matt,
Mike
