I don't know if it was me, but I own an Akai MPC
2000XL and a Yamaha RM1x.

The operating system is stable (I got the third(!!)
update at the 24th of August) now and the few new
features are interesting. Time-Stretching takes a lot
of time but it's great, also the resample funktion.

The slice funktion does not work like Steinberg
ReCycle; it just divides the sample in 16 parts and
makes a new programm (without midi-file).

The sequencer is very good, best thing is (like the
old MPC) the possibility to change between rec mode
and play mode without stopping.

If you connect the two machines via midi you can use
grid step recording for the MPC or you can use the MPC
pads for recording yamaha sequences.
The MPC isn't able to get some bars forward or
backward while playing - the RM1x does, but if you
connect them it's possible on MPC, too (if you press
forward on the RM1x).

I use the two machines as the heart of my live setup.
Normally the are NOT connected via midi to have more
creativity. So they can be used like two turntables.
The two sequencers run cool together; if you press
play they start at once.

The RM1x sequencer controls it's own tracks, then a
Roland D-10, a Yamaha FB-01 and a Korg drum-machine
DDD-5. Sometimes i connect one of them to the MPC but
the RM1x runs good with the external gear.

Sure, it would be possible to connect the complete
system via midi and, if MTC or midi clock is off, the
two sequencers will stand alone; the MPC has two midi
ins and two midi outs. Unfortunately I have had
problems just with the DDD-5 - everything else worked.
It was possible to control the D-10 or the FB-01 from
two sequencers at the same time. But I had no time to
check why DDD-5 does not work, so I decided to run MPC
alone and let the RM1x do the rest - since I've bought
the RM1x it's been the control unit.

But I think MPC is better than SU 700 because of the
good sequencing possibilities, the live-feeling and
the pads. SU 700 has good effects, but better use
extrenal effects and sample them.

But if you don't need a sequencer but a sampler just
buy an S2000; it's the same sampling unit but cheaper
(and no sequencer).

If you have any further questions just ask !!

Bye, Flo
