Scott, save a bit more and go for a Yamaha SU700, or buy it second
hand.
Cheers.

SU700??????????????
Hey, I'm looking to buy a computer soon any suggestions?
Yeah, save some extra cash and buy a Honda Civic..........
I know I know....fucking smartass that I am. As the other person said dude it
basically comes down to what you're looking for....sound types that suit the
music you create, how much depth you like to get into programming, whether
you have a controller keyboard already, whether realtime knobs etc are
important to you.....there's tonza factors to be taken into consideration.
It's not a light question, and basically there's no 'best synth' , just the
one that's best suited to you.
Some suggestions though
1) AN1X. Rocking VA machine, great controller...best value for your money out
there.
2) Virus: Awesome analogue sounds, tough to get second hand but worth
searching for if analogue is your thing.
3) XP-30: If you're looking more for the Digital end on things this is the
one to get, you can find them second hand but they usually are @ $800.....all
those great JV sounds with 3 expansion boards. Invariably the JV-1010 (and
here you'll definitely need a controler keyboard) at $480 is a rocking little
box. Editing sounds will need to include a computer of some description to
run Sound Driver.....but you may already be set up for that.
4) Finally, Ensoniq Fizmo..........actually, just kidding there...unless
someone offers you to take one of these off their hands avoid like the
plague.
