Connecting 2 RM1xs

My partner and I have been considering getting a second  RM1x and trying to
link them up to get 32 track sequencing, but the more I think about this,
the less I can visualize how to do it.  You could set one to sync to
external and connect the MIDI out of the "master" to the MIDI in of the
"slave" but then the slave would receive all of the note data, which would
be pretty chaotic, to say the least. Anybody have any thoughts on how this
could be done (without a computer)?
