hi anyone knows where to get the latest info about Mac World product announcements? read here (from cubase.net): __________________________ Yamaha show ASIO for mLAN! Definitely the coolest product at the recent MacWorld show was Yamaha's new mLAN system running with Cubase. mLAN is a method of using FireWire (IEEE1394 standard) as an audio and MIDI connection system. What does this mean in practice? Well, at the show Yamaha had an O2r mixing desk connected *directly* to the FireWire port of a G3 Macintosh running Cubase 4.1. Cubase was running the new beta ASIO driver for mLAN - giving Cubase the ability to send digital audio *and* MIDI data directly to and from the desk WITHOUT ANY OTHER HARDWARE NEEDED! That's means up to 100 channels of 24-bit 48kHz audio (no, that's not a misprint, we did say *100* channels!) down one single cable without the need for any PCI cards at all... FireWire/mLan is completely hot-pluggable and can handle up to 63 different devices on one network. Yamaha amazed us by connecting a modified CS6 synthesizer directly to the O2r and Cubase simply by plugging in another FireWire cable! Using the mLAN OMS driver, we were able to record MIDI data into Cubase, then play back the synth's sounds through the O2r mixer outs *using the same cable* with full digital quality! This is revolutionary technology indeed - Yamaha are saying it should be available to the public sometime in summer... Here at cubase.net we can't wait! ___________________________ ciao leo
