I totally agree.  Many of the decisions made by large companies are driven
my perceived market pressures.  

If you are interested in modular synthesis, take a look at the Nord
Modular.  You can download the editor for free from www.clavia.com and
play around with the modules.  I am hopelessly addicted to mine.
