YES! This feature is the first on my Rm1x wish list, too.
(And turning the click on/off without stopping the sequencer, please!
Better yet, make click volume adjustable).

But this is not a reason to ditch the sound engine.
Having a pallette of tweakable sounds always available
makes life so much easier (for me, at least).
And you don't have to use it if you don't want to.
