Hello list!

I want to clearify some things regarding familiar on 4700 in stress
situations, as a have once again managed kernel to panic ;)
I use latest familiar distro, installed into rom, and sdg bootloader
version 1.2.4.

What i have done:
I think a had a reset at inappropriate time (state was like ipkg
installing and vim /etc/something through ssh, and also logged in
normally). After a reset there was kernel panic, and messages like
filesystem was corrupt). This is preamble ;)

What i want:
Something fully loaded with fsck and friends, that can be dd'ed to
card, inserted into ipaq and booted from.

Questions:
1. Boot parameters on 4700 are in bootldr.rom. To add logging to
console (as on big boxes), i had to hexedit bootldr.rom, change
linuxargs there (to see them -- strings bootldr.file | grep
"console="), preserving length, and reflash bootloader, because this
parameters are hardcoded there (console=/dev/ttyS0, in my case). Is
there any way to get this out to some file like /boot/params? I
deleted bootparams file on 4700 (pkg name gpe-boot iirc), it's really
useless. How to make it useful? To experiment with custom kernels, for
instance, without reflashing the whole thing..

2. About this recovery thing and booting from card -- there is
excelent article,
http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/BootingLinuxFromCF, but i
havent succedeed. probably because of (1) bootldr problem. Is There
any other resources i missed?

3. Marcus, regarding to your Ramdisk Rescue, i still missing something
about card booting without wince installed. i just miss some step and
cant get this as a whole. Lets assume we have absolutely clean ipaq,
without even bootloader. My thinking was:
 1. i need to flash bootloader that support booting from cf
 2. i need to prepare cf (fat with boot and zimage + ext2 with
initrd, for example)
 3. i then could boot.
can RR be used in 2nd step? And what files i need?

4. Most general question: If there is _no_ way now to boot 4700 from
card to rescue a corrupt system, is there any ways to recover? (in
home environment, of cource ;)

5. Minor notice: home.jffs2 from
http://sdgsystems.com/pub/ipaq/hx4700/starterkit/20060615-gpe/ refused
to flash on my ipaq with "can't load image" reason

6. I also have famous "download failed, reflash failed" messages when
try to update bootloader, but bootloader flashes nevertheless ;)
Though i havent changed more, than string values for linuxargs, it
works.

I promise i'll write "emergency rescue howto" for newbies like me, if
you help me figure this out ;)

regards,
if
