I tried this today: I got a 2GB SD card, formatted it into two
partitions:
Disk /dev/sdd: 2002 MB, 2002255872 bytes
58 heads, 57 sectors/track, 1182 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 3306 * 512 = 1692672 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00000000
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/mmcblk0p1 1 303 500830+ b W95 FAT32
/dev/mmcblk0p2 304 1182 1452987 83 Linux
Partition 1 = VFAT
Partition 2 = ext2
I unpacked your stage0 onto the Linux partition, downloaded all packages
and installed them all - perhaps unwise, but I figured I had the space.
After installing all packages, only 241M out of 1.1G was in use. I'm
guessing that a 512MB SD card would be okay for a basic install and my
2G would maybe be enough for the stage4 as well.
I downloaded the latest HaRET, edited the startup file and got it
booting.
A console appears, is replaced by the Gentoo boot progress screen, and
then fvwm is running. I am not able to do much in fvwm, other than
restart it, change the screen orientation, backlight brightness and so
on - I couldn't launch any applications.
I was able to login to the serial console (9600bps) because I couldn't
figure out what address the USB link was on, though after logging in, I
found that the Hx4700 is using 192.168.1.202. The root password is
'gent00' (see http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_PDA).
Where are the kernel modules, please? I can't find any in
/lib/modules/2.6.21-hh16.
If anyone would like me to stuff these files onto a tarball or zip so
you can just unpack them onto an SD card, let me know via this list and
I'll put something together.
Lex
