I have basically the same laptop (HP with ATI card) and I get the same results. VGA switcheroo fails and I can't generate a DSDT.dat - segmentation fault.
It looks like most of the focus has been on nVidea cards. HP doesn't (and won't) support a switch in the BIOS.
