My first answer did not contain a solution other than referring to our new code base (https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee). That will indeed be the next release. As Bumblebee is dependent of VirtualGL for the OpenGL capabilities on the nVidia card, certain applications may not work. For that reason, we're not starting the desktop environment using optirun (Bumblebee). To start a single application using the nVidia card (Bumblebee), you must open a terminal and run something like: optirun firefox & A GUI for this is being developed, named bumblebee-ui. Unfortunately, this GUI is not updated (yet) for the next stable version and needs some cleanup too.
