imo, no problems here. in moment note_off will exactly send, if the sample 
reach the
sample end. e.g. if you use a short dummy samples of course you get a problem 
with long notes. so its better to use a long dummy sample. so you can specify a 
midi note length with the patterneditor right click and move function. maybe 
you crate an 30 seconds dummy sample for this. in fx_and... you also can add 
only note_off notes. so you can trigger a note off on an next pattern in song. 
e.g if in previous pattern a long midi note have to play over the pattern 
length.

to trigger cymbals e.g. hihat closed and hihat open, with this changes in code 
the mute group function will work. that is really cool. also in the 
fx_and_sample_fun_branch you can play an single instrument like a piano. in 
record function you also record the note_off events. so it's possible to 
connect e.g hexter through h2 and play and record a piano in and through 
hydrogen. or what ever. including correct note length and note_key. yesterday i 
try a bass sample tuned in c and connect it via midi out with amsynth. great. 
so you can create really cool sample shapes.
