Hi Taylor!
That's an interesting project! At the moment i don't have any idea what
can be optimized, the basic data structures were recently revised by
Jeremy Zurcher. Maybe he has some ideas about what can be done.. On the
other hand, we recently found out that the garbage collection of some
data structures (especially notes / note-off events) could be improved.
Another idea could be the work on a concept/implementation of a
cross-platform project format for hydrogen (to exchange songs, patterns
and drumkits in one file across different pc's / OS's). How many days /
hours do you have to work on this project?
Best regards,
Sebastian

Hey guys,
My name is Taylor Seale and I am a Junior CS major at the University
of Notre Dame.
For my Data Structures course our semester project is to choose an
open source project and modify some existing data structures to
increase performance or better the program in some way.
My partner, Ryan Shea, and I choose to work with Hydrogen based on our
shared interest in music software and its functionality on all
platforms (though we will be doing our work in Ubuntu 12.04).
A key element of the project is communication with the developer
community.
We are reaching out to you guys, developers who have worked with
Hydrogen before, to determine which data structures within the program
are most in need of alterations.
If there is anything you've worked with that you've thought needed
improvement. Please let us know! We hope to be in contact with this
mailing list often!
Thanks!
