Hi Sebastian,

I agree, I think the <major>.<minor>.<patchlevel> format is fairly
widespread and well understood. It makes it easier to identify releases in
the cases of patches to potentially multiple branches.

The only downside I see is the potential for confusion between "1.0.1" and
"1.1" but that can easily be avoided by making there are 2 patch releases
to 1.0 before releasing 1.1 ;)
