Have you tried a real-time kernel? Not sure that will help you too much,
since a lot of rt functionality is being put into the normal kernels these
days. Also, I run Hydrogen without a rt-kernel with no problems. I use
Fedora and don't know much about Mandriva. You might find help with a users
group that focuses on doing music on Mandriva.
