Incorporating the new version into Debian, I encountered the following patch we have in our archives now for some time and for which I don't remember why we need it anymore, maybe you have an idea or find them useful:
These patches are necessary to use Hyperlatex on XEmacs. I don't know whether they are still sufficient to achieve XEmacs compatibility (I never incorporated them to avoid giving the impression that XEmacs was supported - or maybe I was just lazy).
