Memang cable modem di bisa lebih jauh jangkauannya, kabelnya khusus (fiber
optic/hybrid), di Jakarta Kabelvision sudah mulai walaupun baru beberapa
lokasi. Adapula pilihan downlink via satelit seperti yg ditawarkan
web88direct (group Indovision) tapi kelihatannya lebih mahal.
Bandwith Indonesia keluar tergantung ISP, beberapa yg saya tahu:
CBN: 32M, Indosatnet: 20M, Centrin: 32M, Linknet: 60M, Metronet: 5M, Uninet:
45M. ISP diatas ada juga yg menawarkan koneksi langsung ke satelit backbone
mereka, tapi mahal sekali.

Jangan lupa, menurut standar xDSL, jarak optimum antara rumah Anda dan
router terdekat harus paling jauh 1800 feet (sekitar 540 meter). Saya
harmpir sign up ADSL dengan local phone co, tapi berhubung jarak antara
rumah saya dan router terdekat sekitar 5500 feet, akhirnya saya memilih
cable modem....
Di lain pihak, saya cenderung agak pesimis dengan ADSL ini. Apalagi kalau
ingin mengakses server-server di luar Indonesia (yahoo.com, cnn.com, dll).
Berapa yach bandwith dari Indonesia ke luar? Dulu pernah ada yang bilang
hanya 2 mbps... Benarkah ini? Kalau benar... wah... mau ADSL-nya 9mbps,
tetap aja ngot-ngotan kalau bandwith Indonesia ke luar hanya dibatas 2 mbps
:) :)
