Versi ini merupakan penerjemahan ke dalam bahasa Inggris modern. Penerjemahan berdasarkan naskah Masora atau Ibrani. Urutan kitab berbeda dengan Alkitab terjemahan lainnya karena pembagian orang Yahudi berdasarkan urutan Torah, Nevi'im (nabi-nabi) and Ketuvim (tulisan-tulisan). Pembagian pasal pun mengikuti tradisi Ibrani, berbeda dengan Alkitab bahasa Inggris lainnya, misalnya judul dalam Mazmur dianggap merupakan ayat yang pertama. Pemimpin editor khususnya Torah adalah Harry Orlinsky, yang juga merupakan penerjemah Revised Standard Version dan New Revised Standard Version. Editor lain adalah E. A. Speiser dan H. L. Ginsberg. Torah diterbitkan tahun 1962, edisi kedua muncul tahun 1967. Lima kitab Megilot (Kidung Agung, Rut, Ratapan, Pengkhotbah, dan Ester) plus kitab Yunus terbit tahun 1969, kitab Yesaya tahun 1973 dan kitab Yeremia tahun 1974. Revisi penerjemahan kitab Yesaya, Yeremia, dan Yunus muncul dalam kelompok Nevi'im, diedit oleh Profesor Ginsberg dibantu dengan Profesor Orlinsky, terbit tahun 1978. Panitia khusus dibentuk tahun 1966 untuk menerjemahkan Ketuvim. Kitab Mazmur muncul tahun 1973, Ayub tahun 1980. Keseluruhan revisi akhirnya terbit tahun 1982.

However, Rashi and Ibn Ezra maintain that this verse cannot be chronological; our translation follows their view. The name 'ELOHIM denotes God in His Attribute of Justice, as Ruler, Lawgiver, and Judge of the world.
