Thanks, Sherman. I am obviously very much in favor of this happening, and preferably sooner not later.
There are other benefits that derive from this, too. It adds to j.l.Character three important properties needed to complete the requirements of RL1.2. Once one can get at Lowercase, Uppercase, and ALphabetic from Character, getting at them from Pattern follows directly. They put Java very close to meeting RL1.2. Now, RL1.2a is a different matter and will need to be approached differently. But one thing at a time. --tom
