Hi,

I am not very familar with X and having problems with the xkb Turkish
(ISO8859-9) layout ("tr").

My distro is Red Hat 7.1 with all the applicable updates and I am using
Gnome Desktop.

For a recall, ISO8859-9 differs from ISO8859-1 only on 6 characters:

Unicode Key ASCII
--------------------------------------------- ---------- ------------
011E LATIN CAPITAL LETTER G WITH BREVE Shift+AD11 208 (Eth)
011F LATIN SMALL LETTER G WITH BREVE AD11 240 (eth)
015E LATIN CAPITAL LETTER S WITH CEDILLA Shift+AC10 222 (Thorn)
015F LATIN SMALL LETTER S WITH CEDILLA AC10 254 (thorn)
0130 LATIN CAPITAL LETTER I WITH DOT ABOVE Shift+AC11 221 (Yacute)
0131 LATIN SMALL LETTER DOTLESS I AD08 253 (yacute)

Our keyboard symbol file ("tr") is using Eth, eth, Thorn, thorn, Yacute,
yacute for the ISO8859-9 specific keys. But this make inconsistencies
with X software which uses UNICODE to render fonts such as StarOffice
6.0 BETA. Also, on some newer Gnome programs such as Evolution this
causes problems.

I tried to modify the "tr" symbol file to use Gbreve, gbreve, Scedilla,
scedilla, Iabovedot, idotless respectively. This time, unicode programs
and Gtk 1.3 works perfect but the others not.

Are these mutually exclusive? Are there any ways to cope up with this?
>From a technical perspective, which symbols should the xkb symbol file
use? The ASCII (Eth, eth ...) ones or the UNICODE (Gbreve, gbreve ...)
ones?

Thanks in advance for the answers if any.

Ecmel
