however "echo a 1 [2]" or "echo � 1 [2]" ('�' being a char supposed to be
in a RTL script) do work as expected, doesn't it?

It seems like a bug in fribidi. and it obviously is related to the handling
of symetrically matching chars �([{< >}])� etc.

I just tested with acon (which don't use fribidi but it's own algo) and
it properly displays '1 [2]' in LTR mode and '[2] 1' in RTL mode
(there is no "neutral" mode).

Does xterm/fribidi have the problem also if main mode is forced to LTR
or RTL ?
