That is a problem then.

What could be done is to modifiy it so it links with fribidi if it is
available; and if it is not, well, then bidi support is not built.

So people that want/need bidi support can just install the fribidi library;
and the code can still be under a licence compatible with the inclusion
in XFree86 sources.

Fribidi won't be *needed* but optional, giving extra features if present.

Isn't that the way the freetype lib is used too? (you still can compile
XFree86 withotu freetype support, isn't it?)
