Never mind...

After spending hours trying to figure what was wrong with my
setup of kinput2 and canna and my environment, I discovered
that kterm has a -xim command line option.    Without it, kterm
didn't even _try_ to connect to kinput2.  

I guess I should have taken the following advice...

perl -e 'print$i=pack(c5,(41*2),sqrt(7056),(unpack(c,H)-2),oct(115),10);'
