I completely understand your concerns. What would be a great thing though, is a page which offers those unmerged patches, so everyone who likes a certain idea can apply (on his own risk!) such a patch. With a central repository, it would be easier to have the authors maintain it and users find this maintained version (opposed to search the web for some random patch). Perhaps one could force the patch authors to add something to the version string, or print to the logs, to get added to the repository, so one could easily spot it in bug-reports. - René
