Talking about driving, we all hate Speeding Tickets. It may be due to just a
bad day at work or an unknown mistake. Be it a matter of mood or rage, either
ways it stays on your insurance records for a while. Not only they go on your
record, but they also cost you in terms of high insurance rates.

So as long as it stays on your file, you pay a high rate. It would really help
to know how long it stays on your insurance records. Normally speaking, it
could stay on your profile anywhere between three to seven years.

You residency could also affect the number of years, so always check with your
Insurance agent or company. It also varies if you are involved in a conviction
and the seriousness of your act. Your history on tickets definitely matters.

If its your first minor violation, you do not have to worry. If you are a
repeat offender they only get worse and take years. Some insurance companies
are liberal enough to waive it within a year, if you have no other violations
on records.

You may also get it removed faster by attending a traffic school if you are
allowed to do so by the judge and your insurance company. Of course all these
are accordingly to state laws.

Sometimes you are not sure of the speed limit and get charged. It may seem a
bit unfair and harsh to pay for this. For instance, a ticket classified as a
minor offense in Washington can stay on record for up to 5 years. This can
increase to 15 years if alcohol is involved and can be a lifetime if a homicide
conviction is involved.

Again for non commercial cars it could be five years and double this for
commercial cars. Its not just the nature of collision or seriousness of the
event. Failure to appear in court could also double the time period to 10
years.

It basically depends on your insurance company. Some look at your last three
years driving records, while others have a policy of five year records. It
should not surprise you that there are insurance companies who look back at
your points as far as seven years.

Its best not to worry about it and concentrate on driving safely at all time.
In case it happens, it would then be advisable to look for your situation
specific answers and related information. Be it a year or three years, it is
definitely not worth paying big money on rates.
