Well, you're keen to remove unsightly hair but favours doing it in the privacy
of your own abode. Instead of laser, electrolysis or other saloon based
services, what are your options?

Many ads from different permanent hair removal creams and products
manufacturers claim to do the job. But are they really any good? Can they aid
in home permanent hair removal? People often fall prey to expensive scams that
either don't work. Or have not been proven to do so. Well, caveat emptor! Check
out with your family doctor or dermatologist for any recommendations and rely
on your own research. Remember, when a thing sounds too good to be true, it
probably is. Review the the consumer reports, if any on the interested products
and assess their safety. Evaluate both the advantages and disadvantages. Then,
revalidate them with your medical advisors.

1) Home Electrolysis Kits

Over the recent years, home electrolysis kits have grown popular with people
who like doing their hair removal at home. Their price can range from forty to
fifty dollars. During the procedure, you need to insert a thin probe into the
hair follicle, killing it with a small run of electricity. Most industry
observers however, don't recommend these kits as manufacturers are often unable
to substantiate their permanent hair removal claims with clinical results. If
you choose to try it regardless, ensure that you obtain a kit that has the
feature of inserting the probe into the hair follicle. Otherwise, it's only
good in removing hair temporarily.

That said, try to get a trained professional to administer the procedure as
improper adminstration can result in scarring. Besides, there are also areas
that you probably can't reach without someone helping you.

2) Prescriptive Topical Cream

Vaniqa is the only topical cream available for longer term hair removal. And
that can only be obtained with a prescription. This product is often mixed up
with depilatories which work by dissolving the hair away, near the skin and
subsequently allowing the hair to be removed with a wipe. It's a common form of
hair removal but not exactly permanent. It's usually used once every
fortnightly.

On the other hand, Vaniqa slows down hair growth by inhibiting an enzyme
responsible for the growth. When complemented with plucking or shaving, this
topical hair removal cream is effective only for women in removing facial hair.
The ointment should be used twice a day. Any discontinuation of use will result
in a regrowth at its normal rate about 2 months later.

3) Oral Medication

Some oral drugs on prescription has been known to restrain hair growth. Though
it's not really permanent hair removal, it offers an option for longer term
hair removal at home. By cutting down on the amount of testosterone or androgen
hormones responsible for hair growth, drugs such as Aldactone, Daine35 or
Propecia can be obtained with a prescription via your dermatologist or family
doctor. Remember to check for any possible side effects before getting them
though.
