Home reverse osmosis systems have become extremely popular in recent years.
It's no wonder, as we are all concerned with water quality and better health.
With all of the potential contaminants that can be found in drinking water,
from lead, VOCs, chlorine, and even drugs, it is becoming pretty important to
understand where your water is coming from.

Is a home reverse osmosis filter the best choice? It depends on what you are
looking for. A reverse osmosis filtration system is a hyper filtration unit
that removes a majority of contaminants from water. There are a couple of
downsides, though. If you want to retain the natural minerals that are good
for your health, this is not the best choice. This type of home filtration
system will strip out all of the good properties, like minerals and taste,
along with the bad. The water typically won't taste as good, because it is
essentially lifeless once it comes through the filter. On the up side, this
really is a good system for processing large amounts of water for industrial
and commercial uses.

Another downside of these systems is that they cost a lot more than other
filter systems, and they waste a lot of water to produce a single gallon of
purified water. And, the home systems are usually pretty slow, taking up to an
entire day to produce 15-20 gallons. This makes this a rather expensive and
wasteful option for home uses.

To be honest, for drinking and cooking uses, there are better choices. There
are several excellent systems to choose from, and all you have to do is compare
the features and performance statistics to understand the pros and cons of each
model. This information and performance facts are readily available on a chart
provided by the manufacturer. Here are some factors you will want to consider:

Which contaminants are removed, and at what percentage level (microns)
Cost per gallon
Quantity of water filtered
Initial cost of the system
How difficult it is to install?
How difficult is it to maintain?
What are the ongoing costs for maintenance and new filters?

After doing a little bit of research and comparing the filters, you should
easily reach a decision on the best option for you. You can look forward to
pure, clean, healthy water for your family for as long as you own your
filtration system.

Home reverse osmosis systems will continue to be a popular option for many, but
hopefully being more educated on the options will help you make the best
decision.
