When you start learning to draw, soon you'll recognize: the big part of this
art is just technique and craftsmanship. When you're proficient in the basic
techniques, your creativity can rely on these basics. This leaves you more
freedom for developing your drawing skills and imagination instead of
concentrating on employing the basic techniques properly.
Therefore it's a great idea to exercise these basic drawing techniques on a
regular basis. Particularly when you're starting to learn to draw, much
practice of these basic techniques will speed up your drawing success.

Learn to Draw Hatchings and Crosshatchings

Hatching means to draw many parallel running lines approximately. Other than in
normal shadings the lines are not allowed to touch eachother! Though there's
still white space 'tween the lines they build an region seemingly shaded
densely.

Cross-hatching takes it one step further. When you are exercising
cross-hatching you cover one set of hatchings with an additional set
orthogonal to the first one. Thus cross hatchings become much denser and
solider than (single) hatchings.
Drawing hatchings calls for precision. So practicing hatchings is also a
great chance to exercise your draftsmanship precision. When starting
commence to fill blank sheets of paper with hatchings and cross-hatchings
without a concrete depicted object in mind.
Once you've gained a certain level of proficiency, you should seek first
simple subjects. Choose such scenes that consist of enough shadow. Seek
to reproduce this scene not employing the use of outlines. Instead trust
entirely on translating the shadows and dark areas into hatchings. Let the
hatchings' alignment play along the objects you are depicting. For drawing
darker areas and shadows lay the lines of your hatching nearer together or
use cross hatching.

Learn to Draw Shadings

Drawing shadings is more common than hatching. It is more intuitive and
requires lower skills. When drawing shadings you merely fill areas of your
drawing with your pencil. By varying your pencil's softness, the pressure you
apply and the count of shading layers you produce you manage the tones you
 produce.
Similar as when creating hatchings you draw shadings by drawing lots of
lines. This time you draw them so dense to each other they intersection and
merge entirely. Shadings made out of lines still have a alignment (though
not as strong as in hatchings). So pay attention to align your shadings'
alignment with the forms of the objects you are depicting. To get the
shading heavier you have to apply the same techniques as when doing cross
hatching.
Another way for drawing shadings requires to draw countless really little
scribbles or circles close together so they overlap. Shadings made this
way are extremely smooth and lack a visible alignment. The advantage: you
won't have to pay attention to the shading's hidden alignment.
Best you start practicing shadings right now. Choose a few sheets of
paper, outline a few bare forms like rectangles and start to fill them
with shadings. Seek to get them as even as possible and use all the
various methods explained before.
Once again when you have reached enough experience, seek to start using
the techniques learned on real-world subjects.

Use Various angles and perspective types

Besides doing shadings and hatchings the most important technique you have
to acquire when beginning to learn drawing, is a profound apprehension of
perspective.
There are a few principles that can help you in building perspectively
correct drafts. But first it's essential you exercise your eye to recognize
 basic structures.
Choose easy subjects mostly consisting of unbent lines and not too much
arcs. And then depict those scenes by drawing only the silhouette. This
way you are able to concentrate on interpreting proportions and perspective.
But do not stay here, reiterate this exercise by drawing the same subject
again and again from various angles.
You'll see with each repeating you'll understand the subject better and
your ability to capture and depict the dimensions of any subject will
increase greatly.

 What Next?

These three exercises are the most important when learning to draw. There
are further basic methods and formulas you could and should train. You
can improve your drawing skills by yourself - just go out and draw real
subjects. Start with simple ones and step-up the degree of difficultness
while you make advancements. Additionally you can learn drawing employing
exercises designed and tested to warrant ideal progress for your drawing
abilities.
