Owners, who could no longer keep their pet, just leave it on the street.
Abandoned cats and dogs are picked up by employees of shelters. However, it
doesn't help pets. Many nurseries are already on the brink of ruin.

The car of animal rescue service leaves on a call. Earlier it meant that
somewhere an animal got into a trouble, but now they are mostly picking up
pets. Inconspicuous brick house in Newark became a shelter for hundreds of
abandoned cats and dogs. They just got an Italian greyhound; puppy of this
breed in the store costs a thousand dollars. It has been found tied to a pole
on the street.

Denton Infild, director of shelter for animals says: "We have an influx of
abandoned pets. People are sometimes ashamed to give the animal by themselves,
so they tie early in the morning dogs or cats at the door of our shelter."

World financial crisis is forcing people to part with their beloved pets. A
roof over the head lost not only those who cannot pay for the mortgage, but
their pets became homeless as well.

In the current year shelter has already received for 60% more animals than in
the past. Veterinarian Roman doesn't have any free minute in the morning -
abandoned animals are being brought in every half hour.

Roman came from Latvia 10 years ago. He just does not remember such kind of
influx of pets. Doctor tries not to become attached to animals. But he pays
special attention to the red cat with burns on her back.

John Kittock, veterinarian, says: "She was picked up on the street. She was
thin, emaciated. Burn was a very, very bad. But it is going well now."

Pets are usually stayed at the shelter for several months while employees of
shelter try to find new owners for them. Small dogs usually got a new home
faster. But big ones have to wait very long. A terrible noise rises every time
when somebody coming in the room. Rottweiler, who has just aggressively
barking, suddenly noticed the camera directed at him, shrank into a corner. A
pit-bull nicknamed Little Prince came closer.

This shelter is constantly under threat of closure. Every month, it needs to
collect one hundred thousand dollars, but people donate lot less money for pets
now, in times of financial crisis. Due to lack of money, shelters are
increasingly lull of animals.

Animal protection associations appeal daily to Americans on television: help
abandoned pets. Owing to shelters like this in Newark, in the United States no
problem of stray cats and dogs. But if the economic situation in America does
not improve in the near future, such institutions will be the last refuge for
the millions of pets, which recently have been family members for somebody.
