Dieting is a household name among the fit and overweight alike. Type this
keyword into google and see loads of searches come up. In this article i will
talk about how to succeed at dieting. Please read on.

Why Diet

Obesity is about to become the biggest health problem. In the US and UK alone
half of the adults are now overweight and one in five is obese. In about a few
years it will increase to one in four.

Why should we we worry if we are getting fatter. We should because it is
stopping us from living life to the full. Carrying too much extra weight is a
health issue and not a cosmetic one.

Obesity takes an average of 9 years from your life. Two thirds of the
population are currently either watching their weight or trying to lose some
weight.

Why Worry About Our Weight?

Do you worry about your weight? Has your general physician advised you to lose
weight for your health? Are you fed up of yo-yo dieting and over the years are
you fed up of weight gain creeping up on you?

You are not alone if you answered yes to these questions. Some people are
constantly worrying about their weight. It is a known fact that most of us have
tried to lose weight at some time or another.

One in three will be trying to lose weight as you read this article. Weight and
body shape are two of life's more sensitive and tricky issues. Few of us like
to talk about what we weigh, and few of us are happy with how we look. We all
want to look like supermodels but that is not realistic. Neither is it healthy
or natural to be what you are not.

There are a few health risks with being overweight. While we can not change our
basic body shape we can control how much fat we carry and how fit we are.

Obesity is the common cause of ill health in both the US and UK, no wonder more
and more people are looking for information on how to succeed at dieting.

Being overweight and obese can increase the risk and/or the severity of many
illnesses and problems. Some of them are:

High blood pressure
Type 2 diabetes
Coronary heart disease
Stroke
Back pain
Stress incontinence
Depression
Asthma
Sleep difficulties

The Toxic Enviroment

When we take in more calories than we burn we gain weight. Many of us will gain
a pound of fat a year without realising it. This is not because we are greedy
but because we live in a world where food is everywhere and we are less active
than ever.

Food is also readily available in the form of fast food in centres i.e
macdonalds and burger king. These foods are quickly prepared and are cheap.
Our bodies are not ready for this constant feast and sloth. We still have stone
age type genes.

Big Food Means Big Waistlines.

In recent times the portion sizes of foods have gotten bigger. This is one of
the chief reasons why people's waist lines have gotten bigger. A standard bag
of crisps used to be 25g - now it's closer to 35g or sometimes 40g.

What Is A Healthy Weight

It is any weight at which you feel good, have energy to do what you want to do,
enjoy a healthy diet and have no weight related problems.

While having too much extra body fat is not good for us, we still need a fair
amount to stay well and healthy.

How do we lose weight and keep it off

In order to succeed at dieting we need to take up exercise and eat a healthy
diet. We do not need to go on starvation diets or any temporay diet like
atkins, or even take diet pills. these measures are drastic. A good healthy
diet and exercise for a lifetime is all we need.
