Exotic reptiles are huge. In fact it is a 3 billion dollar industry and
growing faster than the industry can keep up. The most popular exotic reptile
is the ball python. These snakes are the most docile pet snake you can own.
Snakes don't stink and they are interesting to handle and feed. Do your
research before buying a pet snake to be sure these snakes are for you.

Aside from being the most docile snake out there ball pythons only grow to 5
feet on average. This might seem big but it is not compared to 30 foot
anacondas or reticulated pythons. Balls can be housed in a 30g aquarium like
tank. Coiled up you would never guess these guys are 5 feet. Furthermore they
get as big around as a soda can. They are very manageable from a size and
weight stand point.

Ball pythons for sale in the Untied States are generally bred in the wild.
They are collected in the wild, also known as bush babies, or the eggs are
gathered and then hatched in captivity. These are the worst type of snakes to
own. You want to make absolutely certain you purchase a captive bred ball
python. Bush babies are potentially filled with parasites which can wreak
havoc down the road. Its best to buy only snakes that are captive bred.

Ball pythons for sale that are captive bred are generally more expensive. This
is because the babies are born from two captive bred parents. These snakes
have to be maintained throughout the year and then the offspring have to be
cared for until they are sold. Captive bred balls eat much better then bush
babies and are guaranteed to be parasite free. It is definitely the way to go
when buying a ball python.

Pet stores around the country generally sell bush babies or wild caught,
captive bred ball pythons. Most of these pythons are labeled as captive bred,
but are not born from two captive bred parents. If you can call the pet stores
breeder to guarantee they are captive bred then you're likely 100% safe. If
the snakes are bought wholesale there is no telling where they came from. I
recommend buying balls straight from a breeder.

Think you're ready for your first ball python? There are plenty of resources
available on the internet and you can even purchase a snake on the internet and
have it shipped to your front door. Shipping snakes across the country is a
commonplace thing to do, so don't let that keep you from a trusted internet
breeder.
