A mentor is defined almost exclusively as a more experienced and trustworthy
friend, colleague, counselor or teacher. More completely however, a Mentor is
much more than this, offering insight, perspective and knowledge geared
specifically to the individual they are mentoring.

"Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right
direction."
John Crosby

Through our lives we will most likely have several mentors; a parent, teacher
or coach who helped to guide you in achieving some aspiration or desire.
Whether directly or not, in some way those individuals were there to guide you
and show you by their knowledge gained from their own past experience.

As old as the word's origin in Greek mythology, the role of mentor can be
traced as far as Aristotle, who was tutor and mentor to Alexander the Great.

Whether it is for business, personal relationships, education, or creating
greater wealth, mentoring is one of the truly crucial steps to finding your
core desires and reaching your peak performance.

Mentoring is crucial to the 4 steps to the "success attitude".

At the age of twenty-eight, I approached a wealthy gentleman from my church to
ask if he would mentor me. Even though I didn't know him personally, I told him
I wanted to be like him and enjoy the same lifestyle he did. He said yes - and
over the next 5 years, using what he shared with me and by his guidance as my
first business mentor, I created a substantial net worth. He had the kind of
life I wanted - time for his family and plenty of money.

As a protege I learned not only many key practices of how to reach the kind of
success I was looking for, I also learned the value of having a mentor and knew
even then that it was something I wanted to do. I have a plaque on my wall on
which are written the names of all the people I wish to thank for their part in
my success. In fact, mentoring means so much to me I have stated a desire to
mentor 20 million people by 2020.

Now, I've got a riddle for you...

What is it that track & field hurdlers see and you don't?

Thinking?

Of course... hurdles, obstacles, barriers...

Now, think of yourself as a hurdler getting ready to run the race and they come
over to you and say, "Sorry, but the rules have been changed and you have to
run the race blindfolded."

Do you have any idea as to how difficult that would be?

Any way you look at it, you're going to have a difficult time getting down the
track without running into, stumbling over, and probably falling down because
of those barriers you can't see.

The reality is, life is like that!

Running the "race of life" without the kind of direction you can find with a
mentor can keep you from seeing the barriers that are keeping you from the
success that you really want to achieve.

Great mentors are all around you - you just have to start looking for them!
Don't let yourself be blindfolded when it comes to achieving your success.
