Orlando is a city full of excitement... and full of traffic! Even though the city has done a lot to make tourists feel welcome, there's still the issue of getting to and from the airport and traveling from the hotel to one of the several theme parks. If you'll be visiting Orlando soon, here are your top four options for traveling and the positives and negatives of each option. If you're flying into the Orlando airport or Sanford airport you'll want to carefully consider these options. 1. Airport shuttles Airport shuttles will transport you from the airport to your hotel and back again. The advantage to this mode of transportation is that you don't have to sit around waiting to rent a car. You can normally get on a shuttle very easily after you land in Orlando. On the other hand, you'll have to figure out another option for getting from your hotel to the theme parks. Shuttles only run during certain hours of the day and they only go to certain hotels, so depending on where you are staying or what time your plane gets in, you might not be able to take advantage of this option. 2. Rental cars There are many rental car companies that offer their services directly from the airport. With a rental car you're in complete control of your vacation experience. You can pack all of your luggage directly in your car and be ready to go to your hotel. You can then use your rental car to drive to the theme parks. The major downsides of rental cars are that you'll have to navigate Orlando yourself. If you've never been to the city, you could easily become lost. You'll also have to add in the cost of parking at the theme parks. 3. Public transportation Orlando is full of public transportation that is accessible to everyone. This may seem like a good way to get around and it certainly is inexpensive. However, imagine dragging all of your luggage on a city bus or trying to coordinate your party to get on the same bus together. To top it off, it might be hard to get a bus at certain times of the day. When you're traveling, time is money so the "savings" on public transportation could be more than you bargained for. 4. Transportation service A transportation service is a service that will pick you up from your airport and deliver you safely to your hotel or other Orlando destination. The main advantage of using a private transportation service is convenience. The service will pick you up any time you need them to. They can also accommodate you for stops to a nearby grocery store. A service driver will know Orlando well and be able to navigate through the busy streets with ease. If you consider the fact that time is money when it comes to traveling, the slightly higher price of a car service is well justified. John Murray is owner of M.H. Transportation.
