Gabon has been among the minnows of Africa. They have never qualified for the
elite competition and never made any significant impact as far as the CAF
African cup of nations is concerned. Their only significant appearance in the
World cup qualifiers comes when the famously defeated the more fancied Nigeria
in the World Cup Italy 1990 and prevented them from the qualification. They had
the heart ache of missing out on the World Cup in Asia in 2002 after they
failed to get pass the preliminary round when they were beaten by lowly
Madagascar. The football result of this team is always interesting and you must
navigate to have latest updates about it.

Since then they have worked hard on their infra structure and are of high hopes
to create history and qualify for the biggest competition in international
football. They are headed by former French midfielder Alain Geiresse who has
been given the task to achieve the inevitable. They have received a boost with
their inspirational striker Daniel Cousin back in the lineup. There work had
been cut out after they were slotted in the group regarded as the 'group of
death' where they come head to head against Togo, champions Morocco and
Cameroon. They made a sound start after winning their away game against Morocco
before hammering Togo 3-0 at home and are surprising leading the group.

They look to Roguy Meye for inspiration and if Gabon is to escape the group and
make this campaign a memorable one then Meye has to be at his best. Cameroon
has been one of the best teams of Africa in the past 20 years. They had burst
on the scene when they shocked the defending champions and favourites Diego
Maradona led Argentina in their opening match of the Italy 1990 World cup.

The Indomitable Lions as they are known, Cameroon has a rich history of
football. They are chasing their fifth appearance in the World cup in their
last six attempts. They had to face the heart ache of not making to the finals
in the last edition when they missed their last minute penalty against Egypt.
They have been in great form off late. The made it to the final of the CAF
African Cup of Nations at Ghana 2008 where after being beaten by the defending
champions Egypt in their opening fixture, they lost to the same opposition by
the closest of margins of 1-0.

They have a star studded line up with the likes of Barcelona Eto'o returning to
the squad after an excellent season with the Catalans where he helped them
achieve a famous treble. Song, their fort in front of the goal has been a
sensation for his national team and has appeared for over a century of matches.
They would be firm favourites to make it to South Africa 2010.

The 2000 Sydney Olympics gold medalists are under German Otto Pfister, who
headed the sorry campaign of Togo in the last World cup finals. The Indomitable
Lions have a tough group to deal with after being paired against Gabon, Morocco
and Togo and football result of these matches are interesting to watch. But
they would be fancied to go through. They have a double header encounter
against the early pace setters Gabon, who are in great form after two victories.
