Moroccans are among the powerhouse of the African continent. They were the
second country to represent the continent at the grand stage when they entered
the World cup in 1970 in Mexico and their football results are extra ordinary
at that time. The made a dream debut when they had scoring draw before they
were beaten by a formidable West Germany, lead by legendary defender Franz
Beckenbauer, who made it to the last four. They had another go in the World cup
in 1986 and found themselves again on the Mexican soil. They made it to the
next round, a feat no other African team had achieved, before they suffered
heartbreak at the hands of West Germany. They then had had a mixed results in
the other World cups

Since being a force to be reckoned with in the 1990s, they have failed to make
another World cup appearance since France 1998. They lost the race to the
qualification for the last World cup to Tunisia, a year after the succumbed to
the same opposition in the final of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in 2004, a
tournament they were hosting. The former African champions are now headed by
former French and Tunisian Coach Frenchman Roger Lemerre to guide to a
tournament they have been absent for the past two editions.

Morroco have been placed in a tough group, widely regarded as the 'group of
death'. They are placed third in the standings, two points behind their next
opposition, Togo, a team that was hammered 3-0 by pace setters Gabon. They have
to get favourable results against Togo in their campaign deciding double
headers with a home game followed by an away game. They will look to Youssef
Safri to provide them the impetus for the ties. He has been in good form off
late. And if Morroco are to make a serious impact in the qualifiers, Youssef
needs to fire.

Togo is a team with young but passionate players who are raring to make their
mark at the world stage. Togo, a team affiliated with FIFA since 1960, had to
bear the upsets of failing on eight occasions to make it through to the final
stages of the World cup. Last time, the Sparrow hawks made the head lines when
they shocked Senegal to qualify for the World cup in Germany. Their
inexperience was on display in the finals in Germany as they were brushed aside
by far superior opponents. Togo, though now are much more formidable side with
the likes of one of the hottest property in Arsenal's hit man Adebayor, who
rose to fame when he scored the 11 goals in the African World cup qualifiers.

Togo has put trust in Belgian Jean Thissen to take the Sparrow hawks to the
South Africa 2010 finals. They have been paired with Morocco and 2000 Olympic
gold medalists Cameroon. They have to make these two double headers count if
they are to make their dream of making it to South Africa a reality.
