------------------ ARTICLE START ------------------

It was April when the bomb exploded. Dutch Sex Researchers reported the
shocking results of their newest study of premature ejaculation. They came to
the conclusion that premature ejaculation is very likely caused by bad
genetics. More precisely they had an anomaly that affected their serotonin
levels.

Serotonin has often been called the "happy hormone" since people with increased
level of serotonin are often happier than the average. People in love are one
example how higher serotonin levels influence one's feeling. Apart from this
emotional affect serotonin also influences numerous body functions from calming
you stomach to increased blood flow in heart and lungs
.
The main problem with the studies is the number of participants. They followed
no more than 200 men out of which less than 90 actually struggled with
premature ejaculation. This number is obviously not high enough to be
statistically valid. However it provides a cue that should not be ignored.

It is not the first time that scientist have pointed the finger on genetics as
the key to ejaculation control. Finnish researchers interviewed more than 2000
men about their sexual experience. They found that people with similar genetics
like eg. twins faced the same sexual problems like premature ejaculation.

What to do

The really interesting question for all men out there is how these cues can
help them cure premature ejaculation. The short answer is to balance serotonin
in your body. But this is often easier said than done. While it is quite
possible every interference with the body's hormone system brings certain risks
with it.

There are many negative consequences an intrusion with drugs can cause. First
and foremost every drug has unwanted side effects. Additional stimulation of
hormone production or supplementation can cause the body to further decrease
its natural production.
Thirdly a mental addiction can develop and last but not least ongoing
medication brings steady costs with it. None of the available drugs comes for
free since your insurance will not pay for it.

The only drugs that are currently on the market that will influence you level
of serotonin are the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or short SSRIs.
These drugs that were first released in the nineties are used to treat severe
and ongoing depression. Compared to the old depression medication they have
comparably few side effects but do not treat them with Asperin - this is a
serious drug.

For this reason the only way to purchase SSRIs legally is with a doctor's
subscription. That is the bad news. But don't yet lose hope. SSRIs openly state
delayed ejaculation as one of their side effects and doctors know this. In case
you do decide to give this radical approach a try you can find sympathetic
doctors that will prescribe you a low dose on trial basis to see if it helps
you.
