Free website domain name registration is just the tip of the iceberg when it
comes to learning how to build a website. In addition to hosting your website
or starting your blog for free on Wordpress or Blogger , you'll eventually have
to worry about providing content, attracting visitors, and then making some
money.

Going the Free Route...

If you do want to go the free route, then you'll need to register your blog.
It's the easiest way to get started and you'll be able to have your first blog
post up within minutes.

You'll find YouTube tutorials readily available giving you step-by-step
instructions on how to start your blog right away.

On the other side of the fence (the paid side), and for a bit more flexibility
in design and application, you'll want to register a domain name and find a
hosting company, or try an all-inclusive solution.

What Are Your Readers After?

People search for information and entertainment. You'll want to narrow your
niche so that you can be competitive in acquiring the readers that you're after.

It's important to remember, though, that with the short attention span that
many of us have, you only have a span of a few minutes to attract your reader
and get them to your most wanted response.

What's the most wanted response? It could be one of several things-- a
newsletter opt-in, a click on an advertisement, or the purchase of a product or
service.

Most of the time, we want to gather some sort of contact information so that we
can be back in touch with the visitor in the hopes that they'll return to our
sites several times; building up trust and hopefully becoming a future customer.

How Do You Get Visitors to Your Website?

There are several methods of building traffic to your website. Each can be
very powerful, but remember not to put all your eggs in one basket. A
multi-faceted approach can help to ensure that you aren't missing out.

Here are a few of the most popular and most effective traffic building methods:

Providing Content: The larger your website is with optimized keywords, the more
likely you are to receive organic traffic or traffic directly from people's
searches in Google and other search engines.

Pay Per Click (PPC): These campaigns are structured so that you bid on specific
terms related to your website's topic that you think your visitors may be
searching for. When implemented correctly and with a high-converting sales
page, this can be very profitable.

Link Building: This is sort of a popularity contest, meaning the more websites
that link to you, the better. The reputation of the sites linking in also
makes a profound difference, in that a link from Google or Yahoo is worth more
than a link from "Joe's Mystery Site".

A Little More On Link Building...

This part is so important, that I wanted to make sure I gave you a few link
building tools.

Tip #1: Leave thought provoking and informative comments on blog posts related
to your website's topic.

Tip #2: Research and choose a popular and active forum to visit and comment on
regularly. You want to be viewed as an expert here.

Tip #3: Decide when to pay for links. Dependent upon your budgetary
constraints, you may be able to pay for link submission. There are all sorts
of options available and the best part is that someone else does this for you,
leaving you to concentrate on the most important item -- building your site.

Charles Inniss has built websites that get over 100,000 visits a month.
