In the world of search engine dominance, Google has held all the cards for a 
long time.  As one of the biggest companies in the world, some believe Google 
has become too big for its own good.  Its "do no evil" motto is losing 
significance as more and more people become irritated with its perceived 
arrogance.  The newest engine on the scene, Bing, is Microsoft's next attempt 
to beat the king of search engine out.  The questions arise, then: will search 
engine optimization companies get pulled into the fray?  Will website 
developers have to rethink the way they optimize web pages?  Who will win the 
great search battle between them?

It seems that it is about time a competitor to Google stepped in, even if is it 
just another big company like Microsoft.  Who else could stand a chance against 
a dominating power like Google?  To re-level the playing field, Bing promises 
to yield more current and relevant search results.  Without competition, 
monopolies form and progress stops.  The search battle between these two 
giants, two extremely powerful and rich companies, could change the way 
websites are optimized forever.  Optimizers have been aware since their market 
was created that search engine optimization is unpredictable.  Now it may 
become even more so.

Bing's unique, slick interface is attractive and intriguing to the eye.  It 
seems to still have a few kinks to work out, however.  On some searches, the up 
and coming search engine has been known to return results where 90% of the 
content was irrelevant, especially in image queries.  Bing definitely has the 
potential to compete with Google in the search battle, but it will take time.  
Google is more than a brand name.  It pioneered the way to a free internet 
economy.  It allows users a free experience while delegating the responsibility 
of footing the bill to advertisers.  Microsoft has always been at the other end 
of the scale.

Phrases like "Go Google it" have become household sayings.  It will take a lot 
of effort and time on the part of Bing to change that.  The search battle has 
begun, and it will not take long before sides start taking hits.  Who knows, in 
the years to come we may be Binging our way across cyberspace while the 
degraded Google sits in the corner, alone and forgotten.  Whatever the results 
may be, it will take time to reach any conclusion about the outcome of this 
battle.
