While US cell phones may not work in Europe, European cell phones may not work when you are on the move away from home. Many people actually long for the freedom that a cell phone can provide. The latest 3G dual-mode phones incorporate a combination of GSM and 3G technology. 3G may be your savior here, as they can be purchased for use in most countries. On the other hand, make sure that you avail of the correct frequency combination. Dual-mode 3G phones have the advantage of being highly versatile and due to higher speeds and improved functionality can be used for a variety of other functions in addition to their primary use. However, these phones do tend to be somewhat more expensive. As is the case with most conventional phones, European cell phones work on the GSM network and so you will find that they work in many parts around the globe except for probably North America. When compared to many of their North American counterparts, European cell phone owners are at a benefit as those in the USA with phones which are compatible with the CDMA network face a variety of restrictions when they travel away from their home continent.
